February 1, 2019

Authorities Report That at Least Five People Were Shot and Killed at Two Different Scenes, Suspect at Large

After Mass Shootings in Georgia and Florida, Today’s Mass Shooting is at least the Third Mass Shooting This Week

NEW ORLEANS – The Louisiana chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, released the following statement in response to reports of a mass shooting in Ascension and Livingston parishes that left at least five people dead, including the parents of the accused gunman.

Research by Everytown for Gun Safety shows that this is at least the 195th mass shooting since January 2009 and at least the third in 2019. Everytown defines mass shootings as those in which four or more people are shot and killed, excluding the shooter.

STATEMENT FROM ANGELLE BRADFORD, VOLUNTEER LEADER WITH THE LOUISIANA CHAPTER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION FOR GUN SENSE IN AMERICA:

“I am utterly heartbroken that gun violence has shattered yet another community this week. We cannot allow this kind of violence to become normal. As we pray for the victims’ families and friends, we can and should do more to keep guns out of the hands of people with dangerous histories. Lives are on the line.”
