NEW ORLEANS – The Louisiana chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, today released the following statement after a shooting Saturday night left at least three people dead and seven others injured. According to The Times-Picayune, authorities said two shooters fired on a crowd at a daiquiri shop and that two men and a woman were killed.

On average, 96 people are killed with guns every day in the United States, and hundreds more are injured. More information about gun violence in the U.S. is available here.

STATEMENT FROM MARTHA ALGUERA, VOLUNTEER CHAPTER LEADER WITH THE LOUISIANA CHAPTER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION FOR GUN SENSE IN AMERICA:

“Our thoughts today are with each of the families affected by last night’s horrifying shooting. This tragedy is yet another deadly reminder that we need to do more to prevent gun violence in our city and across Louisiana. The state legislature should revisit the possibility of allowing New Orleans to implement local, proven gun safety measures that may prevent future tragedies.”
