Two People Injured, Including 13-Year-Old Boy, When Convicted Felon Opens Fire on Three Homes
In response to the drive-by shooting of three homes in Pleasant Hill, Iowa on Monday that left two wounded, a 13-year-old boy and an unidentified victim, the Iowa chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America released the statement below.
While details are still unfolding, the shooter is a previously convicted felon with a lengthy criminal record—including two convictions for felony theft and a 2013 conviction for assault of a peace officer. His felony convictions prohibit him from owning or possessing firearms. The suspect was arrested for attempted murder and for being a felon in possession of a firearm. The details on how and where the shooter obtained the 9mm Ruger used in the shooting are still under investigation.
STATEMENT FROM ELLYN GRIMM, VOLUNTEER WITH IOWA CHAPTER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION FOR GUN SENSE IN AMERICA
“Our children should feel safe within the sanctity of their homes, yet events like the Pleasant Hill shooting happen all too often. Moms will not allow this to become the new normal in America. We will work to strengthen gun laws nationwide—and here in Iowa—to prevent unfettered and easy access to firearms by criminals and other dangerous people. We will fight to loosen the grip of the gun lobby on our elected officials, and ensure common-sense measures are taken to keep our families safe from the threat of senseless gun violence.”
