Shooting is the 3rd Mass Shooting in 2020 and 225th Since 2009 in the United States
INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, today released the following statement on reports that four people were shot and killed in an Indianapolis apartment Wednesday night.
“We’re keeping everyone affected by last night’s shooting in our thoughts,” said Alexandra Rollo, a volunteer with the Indiana chapter of Moms Demand Action. “No one should have to experience the trauma of gun violence, and we’ll never stop fighting for the safer future all of us deserve.”
Research by Everytown for Gun Safety shows that this is at least the 225th mass shooting since January 2009. Everytown defines mass shootings as those in which four or more people are shot and killed, excluding the shooter. An analysis of mass shootings from 2009 to 2018 shows there were a total of 194 mass shootings, which left 1,121 people dead and an additional 836 people wounded.
Every day in the U.S. on average, 100 people are killed with guns, and hundreds more are wounded. More information on gun violence in Indiana and across the U.S. is available here.
