NEW Report Uncovered NRA Board Member Anthony Colandro Using Twitter Account to Voice Blatantly Islamophobic & Homophobic Content for Years
Following Report And Call For His Resignation, Colandro Blocked Public Access To Twitter Account
In case you missed it, Muslim Advocates, a national civil rights organization dedicated to “halting bigotry in its tracks,” has called for the resignation of NRA board member Anthony Colandro following yesterday’s shocking report exposing Colandro’s use of deeply offensive and bigoted rhetoric on social media.
The statement from Madihha Ahussain, Special Counsel for Anti-Mulsim Bigotry for Muslim Advocates, reads:
“It’s a disgrace that Anthony Colandro is allowed to sit on the NRA’s board of directors after referring to Muslims as ‘cockroaches,’ calling Islam ‘a parasitic cult’ and deploying other false smears to dehumanize us. He must resign today—and if he doesn’t, the NRA must take steps to remove him from his position during this week’s annual winter board meeting. Colandro’s comments are exactly the type of rhetoric that leads to violence against Muslims.”
Shortly after the release of the report, and call for his resignation, Colandro put his Twitter account on private, despite saying in an interview with The Informant, “I’m an open book. I’m not going to deny anything…My stuff is out there. My history is out there. I’m good that way.”
The Informant report detailed how Colandro spewed “anti-Muslim and anti-LGBT slurs” for years on Twitter, including calling “Islam a ‘parasitic cult’ and describing its followers as ‘cockroaches’ and ‘savages.’”
According to the Informant, the NRA has yet to respond for comment. To ask NRA leaders if Colandro will remain on the board of directors, please note that the NRA’s winter board meeting will be on Saturday, January 11th, 2020 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Tysons Corner, VA.
