Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund Contributed a Significant Six-Figure Contribution to Support Governor Tony Evers’ Re-election, Successfully Defeating Gun Lobby-Backed Tim Michels
Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action Volunteers Made Over Six Million Voter Contacts to Support Gun Sense Candidates Across the Country
MADISON, Wis. — Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and its grassroots networks, Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, declared a major victory today as voters rejected gun lobby-backed Tim Michels and re-elected Tony Evers as governor of Wisconsin.
“Governor Evers is a steadfast gun sense champion, and today the people of Wisconsin rewarded him for that,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. “We’re proud to count Governor Evers as a partner, and are eager to help him pass more common sense gun safety laws.”
“The gun safety movement needs strong allies in the states, and Governor Tony Evers has demonstrated his commitment to public safety time and time again,” said Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action. “The people of Wisconsin have sent a clear message — they want leaders who will work to end gun violence in America, and we’re proud to have Governor Evers’ back as he works to keep Wisconsin families safe.”
“Time and time again, Governor Evers has shown he will stand up and protect Wisconsinites from attempts to dismantle critical public safety measures,” said Erica Throneburg, a volunteer with the Wisconsin chapter of Moms Demand Action. “We are grateful to have a gun sense ally in our governor’s office, and we know Governor Evers will continue to fight hard to keep our families and communities safe from gun violence.”
Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund made a significant six-figure contribution to support Governor Tony Evers’ re-election. Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action volunteers made over six million voter contacts through phone calls, text messages, door knocks, and more across the country this election cycle to support gun sense candidates up and down the ballot.
As part of its efforts this election cycle, Everytown also released polling this fall showing that the vast majority of voters in Wisconsin support common-sense gun safety laws, including 94% support for background checks on all gun sales. More information is available here.
