The New Jersey chapter of Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, both part of Everytown for Gun Safety’s grassroots networks, released the following statement applauding Governor Phil Murphy’s announcement of the nomination of former chief counsel to the Governor Matt Platkin as the next Attorney General for the state of New Jersey. Platkin must now be confirmed by the State Senate. Platkin would take over the position from Andrew Bruck, who has been serving as Acting Attorney General through the end of Governor Murphy’s first term and into his second.
“Matt Platkin has been a fierce advocate for gun violence prevention during his time as chief counsel, and we are thrilled that Governor Murphy has chosen him to continue serving his state and championing the safety of New Jerseyans,” said Theresa Turner, a volunteer with the New Jersey chapter of Moms Demand Action. “As gun violence continues to devastate our communities, having experienced leaders at the helm of our statewide efforts is more important than ever. We are deeply thankful to Acting Attorney General Bruck for his dedication to gun safety, and look forward to a seamless transition.”
