Everytown for Gun Safety Colorado IEC Supported Governor Jared Polis as Part of a $2.7 Million Investment in Colorado, Successfully Defeating Gun Lobby-Backed Heidi Ganahl
Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action Volunteers Made Over Six Million Voter Contacts to Support Gun Sense Candidates Across the Country
DENVER — Everytown for Gun Safety Colorado IEC and Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund, and its grassroots networks, Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, declared a major victory today as voters rejected gun lobby-backed Heidi Ganahl and re-elected Governor Jared Polis to the governor’s office.
“Governor Polis ran on the promise that he would be a steadfast gun sense champion — and he has made good on that promise by championing a slate of lifesaving laws,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. “Everytown is proud to count Governor Polis as a partner, and we are eager to continue working with him to pass common-sense laws to keep Coloradans safe.”
“Since his election to office, Governor Polis has been a champion for gun safety. Under his leadership, Colorado has passed numerous gun safety laws that will keep communities safe and save lives,” said Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action. “With his re-election, Coloradans have made it clear that this is the type of leadership they expect from their elected officials and our volunteers were proud to get out the vote for Governor Polis during his reelection campaign. We look forward to continuing to work with him to advance gun safety in the state of Colorado.”
“Governor Jared Polis has a long and strong history as a gun safety advocate, and we are grateful to have him back in the governor’s office for another term,” said Coni Sanders, a volunteer with the Colorado chapter of Moms Demand Action whose father, Dave Sanders, was the teacher and girls’ basketball coach killed at Columbine High School on April 20, 1999. “While Colorado leads the way in advancing life-saving gun safety legislation, Governor Jared Polis knows the work isn’t done. We look forward to standing with him once again in the fight to end gun violence.”
Everytown for Gun Safety Colorado IEC supported Governor Jared Polis as part of Eveytown’s $2.7 million investment in Colorado. Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action volunteers made over six million voter contacts through phone calls, text messages, door knocks, and more across the country this election cycle to support gun sense candidates up and down the ballot. Moms Demand Action founder Shannon Watts also canvassed alongside gun sense candidates in Colorado, including Governor Jared Polis.
As part of its efforts this election cycle, Everytown also released polling this fall showing that the vast majority of voters in Colorado support common-sense gun safety laws, including 92% support for background checks on all gun sales. More information is available here.
