The Lead Sponsor of HB202 Is Rep. Cyndie Romer, Former Moms Demand Action Volunteer
The Delaware chapters of Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, both part of Everytown for Gun Safety’s grassroots networks, released the following statement applauding the Delaware House for passing HB201 and HB202 — legislation to keep guns out of schools and polling places during elections. The lead sponsor of HB202 is Delaware State Representative Cyndie Romer, a former Moms Demand Action volunteer, and the lead sponsor for HB201 is Speaker of the Delaware House Peter Schwartzkopf. The bills will now go to the Senate.
“We applaud the House for prioritizing the safety of our communities by making sure guns are not in places they don’t belong — like schools and polling places during elections,” said Kristen Bruce, a volunteer with the Delaware chapter of Moms Demand Action. “We also applaud Rep. Cyndie Romer, a former Moms Demand Action volunteer, for turning her advocacy into action by leading the way to protect our communities from gun violence. We urge the Senate to pass this bill and for the legislature to pass the remaining gun safety bills introduced this session, such as requiring a permit to purchase a firearm.”
In an average year in Delaware, 123 people die by guns and 51 percent of gun deaths are by firearm homicide. Gun violence costs Delaware $1.4 billion each year, of which $44.4 million is paid by taxpayers. More information on gun violence in Delaware is available here.
