PHILADELPHIA – Everytown for Gun Safety and the Pennsylvania chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown, last night responded to reports that six police officers were shot and wounded in Philadelphia in hours-long standoff.
STATEMENT FROM DANIEL ISOM, FORMER ST. LOUIS POLICE CHIEF AND SENIOR LAW ENFORCEMENT ADVISER TO EVERYTOWN:
“While we don’t know all the details of what occurred in Philadelphia last night, we know that officers hired to protect and serve were shot and injured by someone who never should have had a gun. We must do more to keep our communities safe, and we need to give law enforcement the legislative tools to remove guns from dangerous and violent offenders.”
STATEMENT FROM MELISSA CARDEN, A VOLUNTEER LEADER WITH THE PENNSYLVANIA CHAPTER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION:
“My heart aches for the law enforcement officers injured last night — and for their families and Philadelphia. We should all be able to be safe from gun violence at work. Today, in the names of those injured, I recommit myself to fighting for stronger gun laws in Pennsylvania and in Congress. We must end our gun violence crisis now.”
