COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, a part of Everytown for Gun Safety, today responded to reports of a mass shooting in Pike County that killed seven family members, including several children. According to Everytown research, this would be at least the seventh mass shootings – in which four or more victims are killed – in America so far in 2016. And there have been at least 147 mass shootings since 2009.
STATEMENT FROM MICHELE MUELLER, VOLUNTEER CHAPTER LEADER WITH THE OHIO CHAPTER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION:
“Today, yet another American family has been devastated by gun violence. Our thoughts are with the Peebles community, the loved ones and first responders affected by this mass shooting. While details of this tragedy are still unfolding, we know that every day in America, more than 90 people are killed by guns, and hundreds more are injured. And research tells us that more than half of the mass shootings in this country involve domestic violence – with the shooter killing a current or former partner or family member. As a mother, a grandmother and an Ohioan, I refuse to accept that this is the world we live in. It is high time that our Ohio lawmakers do more to keep our families safe from senseless gun violence right here in the Buckeye State, and moms will not rest until they do so.”
