Mark Robinson, the Republican candidate for North Carolina lieutenant governor, doubled down on a slew of racist, homophobic, and misogynistic social media posts during an interview with WRAL on Thursday, according to WRAL reporter Travis Fain. Fain reports that Robinson refused to apologize for past social media activity that includes posts calling Black Democrats “slaves,” claiming that homosexuality is “the end of civilization as we know it,” and other inflammatory language.
“Mark Robinson’s blatant disrespect for women, LGBTQ people, and activists fighting for racial justice and police reform shows how unfit he is to represent the people of North Carolina,” said Jeff Kellmanson, volunteer with the North Carolina chapter of Moms Demand Action. “He’s out of touch with North Carolinians when it comes to basic human decency, just like he’s out of touch when it comes to common-sense gun laws.”
Mark Robinson is a staunch opponent of common-sense gun laws like background checks on all gun sales — a policy that North Carolina voters, including suburban women (95%), independents (94%), and undecided voters (93%) overwhelmingly support.
