WASHINGTON — Everytown for Gun Safety, the country’s largest gun violence prevention organization, tonight released the following response after the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times reported that National Rifle Association CEO and Executive Vice President Wayne La Pierre has said he is being pressured to resign by NRA President Oliver North. LaPierre has been the public face of the NRA for decades.
“The evidence of the NRA’s mismanagement and dysfunction is mounting by the day, and now its leaders are playing the blame game as to who’s at fault,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. “The bottom line is this: As the NRA plummets, the gun safety movement just keeps growing.”
Earlier this week, Everytown for Gun Safety Support Fund unveiled a new report on the “NRA in Crisis,” following a recent New Yorker/The Trace investigation, which uncovered questionable financial transactions involving NRA insiders and the NRA’s longtime media contractor, Ackerman McQueen.
