Today: House Passed HB 1468, a Bill That Would Dismantle Missouri’s Concealed Carry Permitting System; 76 Percent of Missourians Oppose Permitless Concealed Carry
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Missouri chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, today released the following statement urging the Missouri Senate to reject HB 1468, a bill that would effectively dismantle Missouri’s concealed carry permitting system, letting violent criminals, certain drug offenders, and people who have no firearms safety training to carry hidden, loaded handguns in public throughout the state. The bill passed out of the House today and heads next to a Senate committee. Recent polling indicates that 76 percent of Missourians—including 72 percent of those in gun owning households—oppose permitless concealed carry.
STATEMENT FROM BECKY MORGAN, VOLUNTEER CHAPTER LEADER WITH THE MISSOURI CHAPTER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION:
“This attempt to gut Missouri’s concealed carry permitting system is unacceptable. HB 1468 would dismantle reasonable public safety measures that ensure that people who are carrying concealed handguns in public have clean criminal records and handgun safety training. Allowing violent criminals and people without any safety training to carry hidden, loaded handguns in public is not a risk Missouri moms are willing to accept. Our Missouri Senate needs to listen to the majority of Missourians—including those who live in gun-owning households—who oppose this dangerous legislation.”
