April 24, 2020

NEW YORK — Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund (“Everytown for Gun Safety”) with its grassroots network Moms Demand Action today unveiled plans for the first set of a new virtual series with women leaders from around the country called “Demanding Women: Quarantine Conversations About Gun Violence.”

The series will launch on Tuesday, April 28, featuring Stacey Abrams. The initial schedule is as follows (note times are subject to change):

  • Tuesday, April 28 at 12pm ET: Stacey Abrams
  • Monday, May 4 at 7pm ET: Senator Elizabeth Warren
  • Thursday, May 7 at 7pm ET: Senator Amy Klobuchar
  • Monday, May 18 at 3pm ET: Senator Kamala Harris

On Tuesday, Stacey Abrams will join Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action, and John Yang, president and executive director of Asian Americans Advancing Justice, to discuss the disproportionate impact of gun violence and coronavirus on communities of color and rising hate and racism experienced by the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities during the pandemic.

“The past, present, and future of the gun safety movement is defined by women demanding action, and backing up those demands with visionary leadership and hard work,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. “Everytown is honored to host some of the nation’s most effective women leaders for a series of conversations about how to keep Americans safe from gun violence during a time of surging firearm sales, high stress, and home confinement.”

“For decades, women have been at the forefront of social justice and public safety issues, and in that regard, this moment is no different,” said Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action. “The leaders participating in our ‘Demanding Women’ series are doing everything in their power to fight the coronavirus pandemic and its intersections with systemic racism and inequities. From voter access issues to rising rates of city gun violence and domestic violence, these women are leading the conversation to demand a better, safer world for every American.”

The series will be livestreamed on Facebook and Twitter. You can follow along at www.facebook.com/Everytown and on Twitter at @Everytown.
