Everytown For Gun Safety Releases Statements After First Question On Gun Safety At Democratic Debate

October 14, 2015

NEW YORK, N.Y.— After the first question on gun safety at tonight’s Democratic debate, Everytown for Gun Safety released the following statements.

STATEMENT FROM SHANNON WATTS, FOUNDER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION FOR GUN SENSE IN AMERICA, A PART OF EVERYTOWN FOR GUN SAFETY:

“Less than three years ago moms across the country came together to confront the gun violence in our country that kills 88 Americans and injures hundreds more every day, and tonight we’ve seen the power of our movement,” said Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America Founder Shannon Watts. “The myth that addressing gun violence is a political third rail is now in the past. As tonight’s debate shows, candidates can talk about solutions to reduce gun violence because there is a growing movement of Americans demanding their leadership on this issue.”

STATEMENT FROM JOHN FEINBLATT, PRESIDENT OF EVERYTOWN FOR GUN SAFETY:

“Gun violence prevention has been front and center on the campaign trail this season and again in the Democratic debate tonight, and that’s a reflection of how far the gun safety movement has come in the last few years,” said John Feinblatt, President of Everytown for Gun Safety. “This is a marked change from 2008, when gun safety was largely avoided during the presidential campaign. The political calculus has changed — candidates are now running on gun safety.”
