The Florida chapters of Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, both part of Everytown for Gun Safety, released the following statement on a shooting in South Florida in which multiple shooters opened fire at a Miami-Dade venue, killing at least two people and wounding at least 20 more.
“Our thoughts are with the dozens of victims of today’s shooting, which took place only weeks after Florida’s governor signed an extreme measure making it harder for localities to create and enforce gun safety measures that respond to local needs,” said Gaby Padron Loewenstein, volunteer with the Florida chapter of Moms Demand Action. “Instead of offering just thoughts and prayers, we need state and federal leaders to take action, otherwise our nation’s gun violence crisis will continue, unabated. Put simply, we don’t have to live like this.”
The shooting comes just weeks before the five year mark of the shooting at Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida where 49 people were shot and killed.
