Everytown and Moms Demand Action Endorsed Murphy and Oliver, Who Have Vowed to Stand Up to the Gun Lobby
Gun Safety Victories Come in the Wake of Recent Tragedies in Las Vegas and Sutherland Springs
RED BANK, N.J. — The Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and the New Jersey chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown, today declared victory in the Garden State, where gun-sense champions Phil Murphy and Sheila Oliver were elected governor and lieutenant governor two days after the latest mass shooting to shake the nation. The Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and Moms Demand Action endorsed gubernatorial candidate Murphy and lieutenant governor candidate Oliver, who ran on gun safety and won. The victories show that momentum is on the side of the gun violence prevention movement heading into the 2018 midterm elections.
Volunteers with the New Jersey chapter of Moms Demand Action worked tirelessly to elect them, knocking on doors and calling neighbors and friends about the importance of electing these candidates.
“New Jersey voters have made it clear that we stand behind behind candidates who support common-sense gun safety polices,” said Brett Sabo, the volunteer chapter leader with the New Jersey chapter of Moms Demand Action. “Our volunteers worked overtime to elect Phil Murphy and Sheila Oliver, because we know that they are dedicated to preventing gun violence and they will stand up for safer communities right here in the Garden State.”
