Initial Reports Indicate Several Students Were Shot and Injured
According to Everytown Research, This is at Least the 85th Incident of Gunfire on School Grounds this Year
SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – The California chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America and Students Demand Action, both part of Everytown for Gun Safety, released the following statement after reports of a shooting at Saugus High School. Initial reports indicate several students were shot and wounded. According to Everytown research, this is at least the 85th incident of gunfire on school grounds this year.
“Schools are the heart of our community, and they should be a safe haven for students. Our hearts are broken as we watch another school community devastated by gun violence,” said Kat Walker, a volunteer from Santa Clarita with the California chapter Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. “We don’t have to live like this.”
“This is every student’s worst nightmare — to have a shooting at their school,” said Julia Runkle, 17, a volunteer with Students Demand Action Santa Clarita Valley. “My friends attend Saugus High, and our tears of anger and fear today will only strengthen our resolve to fight for an America where no one has to fear being shot.”
