Reports Indicate 4 People Were Shot and Killed, Including 3 Children
This Shooting Comes in the Wake of a Shooting at Saugus High School that Left 2 Students Dead and Wounded 3 More
Shooting is at Least the 27th Mass Shooting in 2019 and 221st Since 2009
SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The California chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, released the following statement after reports that four people, including three children, were shot and killed this morning in a family home in the Paradise Hills neighborhood of San Diego. Another child was wounded and is undergoing surgery. Reports indicate that the shooter is believed to be dead.
“Our hearts are with the survivors of this horrific act of gun violence, including the child still fighting for his life in surgery,” said Nikki Faddick, a volunteer with the California chapter Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. “No one should have to live in fear of being shot and killed in their own home — least of all our children. We’ll keep these children in our hearts as we continue to fight for common-sense gun laws.”
Research by Everytown for Gun Safety shows that this is at least the 221st mass shooting since January 2009, and the 27th mass shooting this year. Everytown defines mass shootings as those in which four or more people are shot and killed, excluding the shooter. An analysis of 173 mass shootings from 2009 to 2017 showed that 59 percent of mass shootings took place in private homes.
