California Moms Demand Action, Everytown Respond to Fatal Shooting in San Diego

May 1, 2017

SAN DIEGO – The California chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, today responded to a shooting yesterday at the La Jolla Crossroads apartment complex in San Diego. While details are still unfolding, reports indicate a 49-year-old man opened fire at the complex’s pool area during a birthday party, fatally shooting one person and injuring six others. Responding law enforcement officers shot and killed the gunman. According to news reports, the shooter was white, and all seven victims were either black or Latino.

STATEMENT FROM AMY RAMAKER, VOLUNTEER WITH THE CALIFORNIA CHAPTER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION FOR GUN SENSE IN AMERICA:

“Yesterday’s shooting is a horrific reminder that gun violence can affect any community on any day. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families –seven innocent people randomly shot, leaving one dead and others seriously wounded. Gun violence is much too common in our country, and more than 90 people die and hundreds more are injured every day by gun violence. We can and must do more to prevent guns from ending up in the hands of violent people. Elected officials in all levels of government must work harder to find solutions and keep our communities safer.”
