Last week on June 20, Everytown and Moms Demand Action joined gun sense champions in Congress and other allies in the gun violence prevention movement to call for the U.S. Senate to take action on legislation to require background checks on all gun sales.
It has now been more than 100 days since the U.S. House passed H.R. 8, bipartisan legislation to require background checks on all gun sales, including unlicensed sales between strangers who meet online or at gun shows. Roughly ninety percent of Americans support requiring background checks on all gun sales, but the majority in the U.S. Senate has declined to take action.
A sampling of what volunteers with Everytown and Moms Demand Action did on June 20:
- Volunteers made nearly 120,000 phone calls to constituents in top target states, speaking with them about background checks and patching them through to their Senators.
- Through emails, tweets, text messages, and text to call number (text CHECKS to 644-33), 18,250 people called their Senators and 13,750 connected to their offices on June 20 alone.
- 18,000 people sent messages to their Senators asking for action on background checks, using Everytown’s website.
