Nearly a dozen Bay Area moms will take their gun control message to Washington D.C. next Wednesday. The group “Moms Take the Hill” will urge lawmakers and the White House to pass legislation that will ban assault weapons and create stricter background checks.
The coalition was formed following the school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut. Members of the Bay Area Chapter said Congress needs to act before another mass shooting happens. “We’re just trying to make sure no one else gets hurt. There are eight american children killed every day and it’s just unacceptable,” said Kimberly Samek, a spokesperson for Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America.
The group expects hundreds of mothers from more than 30 states to attend next week’s rally on Capitol Hill. The legislation is currently making its way through the senate.
