Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action Volunteers Made Over Six Million Voter Contacts to Support Gun Sense Candidates Across the Country
CARSON CITY, Nev. — Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and its grassroots networks, Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, declared a major victory today as voters rejected gun lobby-backed Sigal Chattah and re-elected Aaron Ford as Nevada’s Attorney General.
“In a time of rising armed extremism, leaders like Attorney General Ford are absolutely essential to protecting both our lives and our democracy,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. “Everytown was proud to support Attorney General Ford’s reelection campaign, and look forward to partnering with him to keep the people of Nevada safe from gun violence.”
“Attorney General Aaron Ford is a proven gun sense leader, and we’re proud to stand alongside him in this victory,” said Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action. “Moms Demand Action volunteers worked hard to support him in his reelection, and we’ll continue to have his back as he works to keep our democracy and our communities safe.”
“Attorney General Ford has been a champion for gun safety since he was elected in 2018 and we’re proud to give him another term,” said Wendy Starkweather, a volunteer with the Nevada chapter of Moms Demand Action. “We look forward to strengthening our partnership with Attorney General Ford and his office to continue promoting the safe and responsible use of firearms in Nevada.”
Everytown spent more than $3 million in Nevada this election. Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action volunteers made over six million voter contacts through phone calls, text messages, door knocks, and more across the country this election cycle to support gun sense candidates up and down the ballot. Moms Demand Action founder, Shannon Watts, visited Nevada in recent weeks where she canvassed alongside elected officials in support of Attorney General Ford.
As part of its efforts this election cycle, Everytown also released polling this fall showing that the vast majority of voters in Nevada support common-sense gun safety laws, including 98 percent support for background checks on all gun sales. More information is available here.
