WASHINGTON D.C. – Today, TIME Magazine named Angela Ferrell-Zabala, Executive Director of Moms Demand Action, to the inaugural TIME Visionaries list. The list recognizes leaders driving meaningful impact in the lives of children across education, health and wellness, technology, economic opportunity, and more.

The announcement comes during Gun Sense University in Washington, D.C., Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund’s marquee training conference. Gun Sense University brings together nearly 1,000 Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action volunteers and survivors of gun violence from across the country to share best practices, participate in training sessions about effective organizing and prepare for the crucial work ahead.

“I am incredibly honored to be recognized on the inaugural TIME Visionaries list alongside so many leaders fighting for a brighter future for our children,” said Angela Ferrell-Zabala, Executive Director of Moms Demand Action. “To receive this honor while surrounded by thousands of our tireless grassroots volunteers at Gun Sense University is a testament to the collective power of our movement. Keeping our children safe from gun violence is a defining fight of our time, and it is our shared responsibility to ensure they can grow up free from fear.”

As the first-ever Executive Director of Moms Demand Action, Ferrell-Zabala is responsible for leading and growing the largest gun violence prevention grassroots network in the country. Angela travels across the country to mobilize Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action volunteers at chapter Advocacy Days, campaign events, campus rallies, and more. She joined the organization in 2019 as Everytown for Gun Safety’s Senior Vice President of Movement Building, where she led grassroots organizing, external engagement, and programmatic work—including cultural and corporate engagement, national partnerships, and national programs. Additionally, she has helped lead the way on building and sustaining collaborative relationships with diverse and representative communities through constituency-based strategic engagement.

Ferrell-Zabala is deeply passionate about movement building, uplifting and centering often marginalized voices, and empowering the next generation of leaders. She holds a background in political and social sciences, and began her social justice journey through volunteer opportunities centered on women’s rights, civil rights, the LGBTQ+ community, immigration, racial justice, and education. She is a mother of four and a lover of music, art, dance, and theater.
