Measures Within Bill Will Help Keep Guns Out of the Hands of Domestic Abusers

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Alabama chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, today released the following statement applauding Governor Bentley for signing House Bill 47—legislation containing life-saving domestic violence provisions—into law. The new law will help protect domestic violence victims by prohibiting abusers convicted of domestic violence crimes or subject to domestic abuse protection orders from possessing firearms.

STATEMENT FROM LAUREL MILLS, VOLUNTEER CHAPTER LEADER FOR THE ALABAMA CHAPTER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION:

“Governor Bentley’s decision to sign House Bill 47 into law marks an important step forward for Alabama and its commitment to protecting our state’s most vulnerable individuals. I applaud Governor Bentley and our elected leaders in the state legislature for their leadership on this issue and for working together to make our communities safer for everyone. HB 47 will help save lives and protect domestic violence victims by keeping guns out of the hands of abusers.”
