Pennsylvania Moms Demand Action, Everytown Applaud Advancement Of Lifesaving Domestic Violence Prevention Legislation

September 26, 2018

HARRISBURG, Pa. – The Pennsylvania chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, released the following statement praising lawmakers for advancing HB 2060 out of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. HB 2060 would protect survivors of domestic abuse by prohibiting all abusers who are subject to final protection from abuse orders from possessing guns and requiring them to turn in their guns while the order is in effect.

The bill includes other protections to ensure that abusers convicted of misdemeanor crimes of domestic violence, who are already prohibited from having guns under Pennsylvania law and required to transfer them after their conviction, transfer their firearms quickly and securely. A companion bill passed the Senate unanimously in March. On Monday, volunteers with the Pennsylvania chapter of Moms Demand Action hosted a “Protect Pennsylvania Families” rally with community leaders and lawmakers, including state Representative and HB 2060 sponsor Marguerite Quinn, to urge the General Assembly to quickly pass this lifesaving legislation.

STATEMENT FROM DEB MARTESLO, VOLUNTEER LEADER WITH THE PENNSYLVANIA CHAPTER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION FOR GUN SENSE IN AMERICA:

“Moms Demand could not be more pleased to see this bipartisan, lifesaving domestic violence legislation pass out of the House today. We thank all the state representatives who stood up for the safety of Pennsylvania families and communities, particularly Representative Quinn for her tireless advocacy on behalf of domestic violence survivors and their families. We urge the Senate to vote on HB 2060 immediately. This is a matter of life or death.”
