Reports Indicate 2 People Were Shot and Killed

Oklahoma has the 9th Highest Rate of Gun Deaths in the Country

DUNCAN, Okla. – The Oklahoma chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, released the following statement after reports that two people were shot and killed today in the parking lot of a Walmart in Duncan, Oklahoma. Reports indicate that the shooter is believed to be dead.

“Two lives were cut short today in a senseless act of gun violence, and now their families are in the club no one wants to join — the millions of Americans whose lives have been forever altered by gun violence,” said Kay Malan, volunteer leader with the Oklahoma chapter Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. “There’s a lot we don’t yet know about what happened today, but here’s what we do know: No one should have to live in fear of gun violence in their homes, in their schools or in a store parking lot.”

This year, Oklahoma lawmakers took steps to further weaken gun laws in Oklahoma, which has the 9th highest rate of gun deaths in the country. Overall, states that have stronger gun laws experience lower rates of gun deaths. More information on gun violence in Oklahoma is available at EveryStat for Gun Safety
