Reports Indicate One Student Was Shot and Killed; Shooter Was Reportedly Also a Student Who is Now in Custody
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The North Carolina chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, today responded to news of a shooting at Butler High School in Matthews, North Carolina. While details are still unfolding, reports indicate that one student was shot and killed by another student with a firearm.
Research by Everytown for Gun Safety shows that this is at least the 75th incident of gunfire on or onto school grounds in 2018.

“As a volunteer with Moms Demand Action, I have worked for years to demand solutions to prevent gun violence and keep my family safe. This weekend, I mourned for the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh. Today, it was the school my daughter attended that became the site of gun violence. Do not wait until your family is affected to act to prevent gun violence. Elections are eight days away – we must vote like our lives are on the line, because they very well could be.”
