September 19, 2020

NEW YORK – The New York chapters of Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, the grassroots networks of Everytown for Gun Safety, today released the following statement after a shooting at a backyard party in Rochester, NY early this morning killed two people and left at least 14 others wounded, all in their late teens or early 20s. Dozens of rounds were fired, according to police.

“This is devastating and utterly unacceptable,” said Deb Antoniades, a volunteer with the New York chapter of Moms Demand Action. “We don’t have to live like this. We’re thinking of everyone affected by this horrific shooting, and we’re more committed than ever to fighting for the safer future all of us deserve.”

Every day, more than 100 Americans are killed with guns and 200 more are shot and wounded. In New York state, 379 people are killed in firearm homicides each year. More information about gun violence in New York is available here.
