New SPLC Report: Gun Extremist Marjorie Taylor Greene Has “Several Ties To Conspiracy, Hate Groups”

September 10, 2020

Will Leading Georgia Republicans Condemn Her?

ATLANTA – A new report, released yesterday by the Southern Poverty Law Center, highlighted dangerous ties between Marjorie Taylor Greene and several extremist organizations, such as the Georgia Three Percent Security Force Intel Militia, Gun Owners of America and anti-LGBTQ hate groups Mass Resistance and Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF). To date, leading Georgia Republicans – including Senators Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue, Rep. Doug Collins, Karen Handel, and Dr. Rich McCormick – have either endorsed her candidacy or remained silent in the face of her dangerous extremism.

According to the report, Greene has a “cozy relationship… with the far-right antigovernment militia movement” and a “long-standing friendship… [with] antigovernment militia leader Chris Hill,” the leader of the Georgia Three Percent Security Force

“This report lays bare Marjorie Taylor Greene’s long history of gun extremism and hate,” said Adrienne Penake, a volunteer with the Georgia chapter of Moms Demand Action. “Leading Republicans in Georgia should reject her extreme and dangerous ideology – but instead, they have either condoned her vitriol with their silence or openly embraced it.”

According to Media Matters for America, Greene has “expressed support for QAnon, the violence-linked conspiracy theory that the FBI has labeled a potential domestic terror threat. She has also pushed conspiracy theories about the 9/11 attacks, the killing of Democratic staffer Seth Rich, and Pizzagate, among others.” After she won her primary, President Donald Trump tweeted: “Congratulations to future Republican Star Marjorie Taylor Greene on a big Congressional primary win in Georgia against a very tough and smart opponent. Marjorie is strong on everything and never gives up – a real WINNER!”
