New Hampshire Moms Demand Action, Everytown Statement in Response to Kelly Ayotte Describing Donald Trump as a ‘Role Model’

After Calling Trump a Role Model at a Debate, Ayotte Later Claimed She ‘Misspoke’

MANCHESTER, N.H. – In response to U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte calling Donald Trump a “role model” in a debate with Gov. Maggie Hassan last night, the New Hampshire chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund, released the following statement. After the debate, Ayotte attempted to walk back her comments by claiming she “misspoke.”

STATEMENT FROM KATIE DESROCHERS, A VOLUNTEER WITH THE NEW HAMPSHIRE CHAPTER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION FOR GUN SENSE IN AMERICA:

“It’s no surprise that Kelly Ayotte has called Donald Trump a ‘role model’ because both of them adhere to the extreme agenda of the NRA leadership – guns everywhere, at any time with no questions asked. Ayotte may try to distance herself from Trump and her own record on guns, but Granite Staters know the truth: Ayotte consistently votes with the gun lobby and against her constituents – 80 percent of whom support criminal background checks for all gun sales. That’s why volunteers with New Hampshire chapter of Moms Demand Action are working tirelessly to Kick Out Kelly and elect gun sense champion Gov. Maggie Hassan to the U.S. Senate.”

Volunteers with the New Hampshire chapter of Moms Demand Action are spearheading a grassroots campaign to Kick Out Kelly Ayotte. This year alone, Everytown and New Hampshire Moms Demand Action have placed a full page ad against Ayotte in the New Hampshire Union Leader, launched a home-page takeover of the Union Leader and run digital ads. Additionally, Senator Ayotte’s constituents have been passing out fliers and signing up Gun Sense Voters across the state – voters who vow to Kick Out Kelly and support candidates like Maggie Hassan, who have a strong record on gun safety. New Hampshire volunteers have also been following Ayotte’s public events – and she is clearly feeling the heat, recently kicking out a constituent from a town hall because she was wearing a Moms Demand Action shirt.
