Moms Demand Action and Everytown for Gun Safety to Send One Million Calls to #RejectTheNRA

October 17, 2017

In the Wake of the Largest and Deadliest Mass Shooting in Modern American History, Moms Demand Action and Everytown Commit to Making One Million Calls Before Midterms to #RejectTheNRA and Its Dangerous Agenda

The National Effort Begins with Calls to Congress to Stop NRA-Backed Bills and Includes 100,000 Calls Supporting Gun Sense Candidates in Virginia

NEW YORK – Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown, today announced that they will send one million phone calls to reject the NRA and its dangerous agenda. Through November 2018, Moms Demand Action volunteers and supporters of Everytown will prove that across the country, Americans want common-sense gun safety – and will back candidates who support gun safety too.

“Some members of Congress are bought by the NRA, and we are all paying the price,” said Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. “Americans reject the NRA’s deadly agenda, and we’ll fight tooth and nail to stop them from further weakening our gun laws. There is so much more we can do to prevent gun violence, and we’ll start by sending Congress a clear message: Vote with us, or we will vote you out.”

The million calls commitment launches with tens of thousands of calls to Congress to demand that legislators stop efforts to roll back gun silencer safety laws and to pass so-called “Concealed Carry Reciprocity,” which the NRA again named as its number one priority in the wake of the mass shooting in Las Vegas. Simultaneously, Moms Demand Action volunteers and Everytown will help to send 100,000 calls to get out the vote in Virginia, in advance of the election on November 7.

“The NRA has spent millions electing the President and Congress it wants – but grassroots momentum is on the side of gun safety,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety. “By sending one million calls, we’ll prove the power – and passion – of Americans hungry for change. The NRA’s leadership is deeply out of touch with the American people, and we’ll make sure Congress and lawmakers in states hear their constituents loud and clear.”

Across the country in October, Moms Demand Action chapters are hosting more than 700 events to #RejectTheNRA and its dangerous agenda. Events range from standing-room-only volunteer meetings in states like Missouri, Georgia and Colorado, to candidate events in Virginia and public education events in Pennsylvania. Volunteers will make clear in red, blue and purple states that the NRA does not represent the will of the vast majority of Americans, including gun owners.
