BOSTON – The Massachusetts chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, today released the following statement after a 19-year-old was shot and injured at Boston Common Tuesday night. Although details are still unfolding, media reports state that following multiple police chases, three suspects were arrested in connection to the shooting. According to Police Commissioner William B. Evans, a gun was recovered, and he does not believe it was a random act. He said he believes an argument preceded the shooting and the people involved are known to one another. The victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds and is in critical condition at Tufts Medical Center.

Across the country, more than 90 Americans are killed by gun violence every day, and hundreds more are injured. More information about U.S. gun violence is available here.

STATEMENT FROM SONYA COLEMAN, VOLUNTEER WITH THE MASSACHUSETTS CHAPTER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION FOR GUN SENSE IN AMERICA:

“I am devastated that gun violence has struck Boston, this time as young adults and families were enjoying a night at the park. Boston’s parks should not be home to shootings like this. Although Massachusetts is a leader on gun violence prevention, there is still more work to do. We all need to be part of the solution because we have the right to be safe from gun violence.”
