NEW YORK – Everytown for Gun Safety today released an update on ‘sibling marches’ occurring in all 50 states around the country, and many cities globally, as part of the March for Our Lives movement on March 24.

Due to overwhelming organizing momentum and interest in participation that has emerged in the past two weeks, more than 400 local marches have been planned by students and survivors in communities big and small — from Fairbanks, Alaska to Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Belfast, Maine, Mission, Texas and beyond. Numbers are expected to increase leading up to the national day of action calling for lawmakers to make students’ lives and safety a priority and pass common-sense gun safety legislation.

Everytown is providing structural support for organic local marches planned in communities of all sizes across the nation. Everytown previously announced $2.5 million in grants to provide 500 organizers with resources of $5,000 per march for associated operational expenses.

Additional details on ‘sibling marches,’ including how to register to organize a march, are available at www.MarchforOurLives.com/events

STATEMENT FROM JULIA SPOOR, FOUNDING MEMBER OF STUDENTS DEMAND ACTION:

“What happened in Parkland could happen in any school, and that’s exactly why students have to lead this conversation. It is clear that no one is safe from gun violence. If adults cannot get this done, we will.”

Julia is a 16-year-old high school student from Jenkintown, Pennsylvania whose father died by gun suicide.

STATEMENT FROM JOHN FEINBLATT, PRESIDENT OF EVERYTOWN FOR GUN SAFETY:

“The momentum for gun safety is building across the country. Everytown is proud to support the many students stepping up and demanding action, and we look forward to even more Americans following their lead.”

STATEMENT FROM SHANNON WATTS, FOUNDER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION FOR GUN SENSE IN AMERICA:

“For too long, gun violence has plagued our schools and communities and it’s time for our nation’s leaders to take meaningful action. We’re working to make sure that everyone can attend a march – whether it’s in DC or in their local community. Moms Demand Action volunteers will be marching alongside these incredible students in hopes we can create lasting change so our families and children can live without fear of gun violence.”
