S.B. 45, Which Passed Kansas Senate Today, Would Allow People Who Have Never Handled Guns Before to Carry Hidden, Loaded Guns in Public
The Kansas Chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, today condemned the Senate’s passage of S.B. 45, legislation that would effectively dismantle the state’s concealed carry licensing system. The bill now moves to the Kansas House of Representatives. If S.B. 45 becomes law, Kansas would become one of only five states to allow people to carry hidden, loaded guns in public places without any training or license required.
“If this dangerous legislation becomes law, people with no safety training could carry hidden, loaded handguns in public,” said TerriLynn Barnett Miller, a volunteer with the Kansas Chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. “Moms don’t want to sit down for dinner at a restaurant with their families next to an armed customer who has never even handled a gun before, who doesn’t have a license, and who can carry with no questions asked. If S.B. 45 passes, that could be a reality for Kansans and it would be completely legal.”
