Indiana Moms Demand Action, Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund Celebrate Moms Demand Action Volunteer Kathy Parker’s Win in Race for West Lafayette City Council

November 6, 2019

Kathy Parker Joins Dozens of Moms Demand Action Volunteers Elected to Public Office Since its Founding in 2012

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and the Indiana chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, a part of Everytown, released the following statements applauding Moms Demand Action volunteer Kathy Parker for winning her race for West Lafayette City Council, District 5.

STATEMENT FROM SHANNON WATTS, FOUNDER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION FOR GUN SENSE IN AMERICA:

“For nearly seven years, Moms Demand Action volunteers across the country have shown they’ll do whatever it takes to keep their communities safe. Now, many volunteers are taking their advocacy to the next level by running for elected office and I know that as lawmakers, they will be the ultimate gun sense champions.”

STATEMENT FROM JENNIFER HAAN, A VOLUNTEER LEADER WITH THE INDIANA CHAPTER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION FOR GUN SENSE IN AMERICA:

“Kathy will make a phenomenal city council member. As a Moms Demand Action volunteer, I’ve seen firsthand Kathy’s dedication to protecting our community, and I look forward to working with her on stronger community policies that keep our families safe.”

Earlier this year, Moms Demand Action volunteer Movita Johnson-Harell, a Philadelphia-based gun violence survivor, was endorsed by Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund, and won a special election for Pennsylvania House of Representatives District 190. Moms Demand Action volunteer Christine McGrath was also endorsed by Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund earlier this year, and she won her race for Verona Town Council in New Jersey

Moms Demand Action volunteers know that gun violence kills 100 Americans every day and wounds hundreds more – and they are running for office to enact change and stand up to the gun lobby’s priorities.
