Moms Demand Action, Everytown Respond to Reports That Anthony Scaramucci Will Be Named New White House Communications Director

WASHINGTON – Everytown for Gun Safety and Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, today responded to reports that the White House will hire Anthony Scaramucci to be the new White House Communications Director. Following the Sandy Hook shooting that killed 20 children and six adults in 2012, Scaramucci tweeted that he has “always been for strong gun control laws.” In another tweet, Scaramucci implied that keeping a gun in a home may give the “illusion of security, but more likely to cause you harm.” Additionally, Scaramucci tweeted that when it comes to guns, “it is just common sense [to] apply more controls.” In 2016, he tweeted that “killings went down” when “guns were taken from people who put their fellow citizens at risk.”

Recent polling from Pew and Quinnipiac both show that the majority of Americans, including gun owners and Republicans, support gun violence prevention measures.

STATEMENT FROM SHANNON WATTS, FOUNDER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION FOR GUN SENSE IN AMERICA:

“Scaramucci’s comments underscore recent national polling data: Gun violence prevention is not a partisan issue. A vast majority of Americans – including gun owners, NRA members and Republicans – overwhelmingly support common-sense gun laws. While NRA leaders may have a seat at the table in Trump’s White House, there are millions of Americans standing on the side of gun safety, possibly including the new White House Communications Director. It’s time for the entire White House and current administration to join us in speaking out against gun violence and eradicate the gun lobby’s ‘guns everywhere, for anyone’ agenda.”
