Ryan Follows Congressman Tim Walz as the Second Member of Congress Since the Las Vegas Shooting to Donate Past Campaign Contributions from the NRA
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Everytown for Gun Safety and Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, a part of Everytown, today applauded Congressman Tim Ryan for donating $20,000 – the amount of past contributions his campaign received from the National Rifle Association – to gun violence prevention groups to fuel our fight against the gun lobby’s dangerous polices. The donations will be split amongst Everytown for Gun Safety, Americans for Responsible Solutions and Sandy Hook Promise.
On Tuesday, Congressman Tim Walz announced he will donate the $18,950 of past contributions his campaign received from the NRA to the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund. During the announcement, Congressman Walz affirmed his supports “universal background check legislation, oppose(s) conceal and carry legislation before Congress, and oppose(s) legislation to reduce restrictions on gun silencers.”
STATEMENT FROM JOHN FEINBLATT, PRESIDENT OF EVERYTOWN FOR GUN SAFETY:
“In the wake of the deadliest mass shooting in America, it is clear that the American people are fed up with the gun lobby’s dangerous agenda. By putting profit over public safety, today’s NRA no longer reflects the values of its members or most Americans. We thank Congressmen Tim Ryan and Tim Walz for rebuking the gun lobby, rejecting their money and helping to fight the gun lobby’s dangerous priorities to roll back silencer safety laws and gut state gun laws through so-called ‘Concealed Carry Reciprocity.’”
STATEMENT FROM MICHELE MUELLER, VOLUNTEER WITH THE OHIO CHAPTER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION FOR GUN SENSE IN AMERICA:
“We applaud Congressman Ryan for his leadership and urge other Ohio state and federal representatives to follow suit and reject the NRA’s dangerous agenda. The gun lobby’s agenda to gut gun silencer safety laws and weaken states’ gun laws have no place in Ohio or America.”
