Illinois Moms Demand Action, Everytown Respond After Aurora Mass Shooting

February 15, 2019

AURORA, Illinois — The Illinois chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, today released the following statement after the mass shooting at a manufacturing company in Aurora, Ill.

Research by Everytown for Gun Safety shows that this was at least the 198th mass shooting since January 2009 and at least the sixth in 2019. Everytown defines mass shootings as those in which four or more people are shot and killed, excluding the shooter.

“Our community is reeling, and we’re angry,” said Holly Blastic, a Naperville volunteer with the Illinois chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. “This is a horrifying reminder of how hard we have to work to prevent gun violence. Our hearts go out to every family affected by this shooting. ”

Every day, 100 Americans are killed with guns and hundreds more are shot and injured. More information about gun violence in the U.S. is available here.
