May 28, 2019

Cities across the country experienced spikes of gun violence over Memorial Day weekend. From armed robberies to shootings in bars and at the beach, these incidents were a sobering reminder of the gun violence that happens every day in this country. A few tragic examples include:

In Louisiana, at least 13 people were wounded and five people were shot and killed throughout the weekend in New Orleans. The incidents included two armed robberies, two armed carjackings and two suicides.

In New Jersey, 10 people were shot and wounded during a shooting at a North Trenton bar on Saturday.

In Washington, a woman and at least three children were shot and wounded when shots were fired at Seattle’s Pritchard Island Beach on Memorial Day.

In Illinois, at least 42 people were shot over the weekend in Chicago, with at least seven people killed.

In Washington, D.C., at least 20 people were shot throughout the holiday weekend, with at least three people shot and killed.

In Missouri, three people were shot and killed and 16 others were shot and wounded in St. Louis throughout the weekend.

In Georgia, the city of Augusta has seen five shootings in the past five days.
