GOP Debate Reax: Shannon Watts, Founder of Moms Demand Action, Reacts to Guns Discussion at GOP Debate

September 16, 2015

NEW YORK – Everytown for Gun Safety, the largest gun violence prevention organization in the country, released the following statement from Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, a part of Everytown, in response to the GOP presidential candidates being asked a question about guns in tonight’s CNN debate.

STATEMENT FROM SHANNON WATTS, FOUNDER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION FOR GUN SENSE IN AMERICA, PART OF EVERYTOWN:

“Once again, the candidates tonight skirted the issue of what they will do to prevent the gun violence that kills 88 Americans every day – relying on the same old and tired lines that laws don’t matter because criminals don’t obey them. That trope still doesn’t explain why they won’t close the enormous loopholes that make it easy for dangerous people to buy guns online in unlicensed sales with no questions asked. In states that require background checks for all handgun sales fewer women and fewer law enforcement officers are killed by gun violence. This is a nation of laws – and they work. It’s time that all of the presidential hopefuls support the common-sense public safety measures that can prevent gun violence.”
