Georgia Moms Demand Action, Everytown Condemn Attack Ad Tying Jon Ossoff to Violence

June 19, 2017

Ad Ties Ossoff to the Alexandria Shooter; Top Georgia GOP Official Declares, “I think the shooting is going to win this election for us.”

ATLANTA – The Georgia chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, a part of Everytown for Gun Safety, released the following statement today in response to an ad encouraging voters to support Karen Handel, claiming that more shootings like the one that put Rep. Steve Scalise into critical condition would occur if Ossoff wins. Both campaigns have spoken out against the ad – Handel has not gone as far as to say that the ad should be taken off the air.

STATEMENT FROM AMY JEFFS, VOLUNTEER WITH THE GEORGIA CHAPTER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION FOR GUN SENSE IN AMERICA AND SIXTH DISTRICT VOTER:

“Every day, more than 90 American lives are taken by gun violence and hundreds more are injured. It’s disgusting to politicize this national tragedy and use it to get voters to the polls. When President Trump was candidate Trump, he joked about shooting someone on Fifth Avenue without losing voters and intimated that the ‘Second Amendment people’ should come after his opponent. It’s no surprise to see gun violence once again being treated as trivial during a campaign, but it certainly is out of touch with sixth district voters. We won’t be fooled or swayed by those who make light of this nation’s gun violence crisis.”
