NEW YORK – Today, Everytown for Gun Safety and its grassroots networks, Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, released the following statements after the National Rifle Association canceled its annual convention that was going to be held in Houston over Labor Day weekend.
“Now that the NRA has cancelled their convention out of public health concerns, it’s time for them to extend that concern beyond their members, and stop throwing gas on another raging health crisis: gun violence,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety.
“This is probably the only time the NRA has put public health and safety before profits,” said Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action. “The NRA claims to have analyzed data and consulted with medical professionals and local leaders about the dangers of the pandemic in Texas, but seems to have completely ignored this exact process when it pushed permitless carry through the state’s legislature two months ago.”
