Terence Crutcher Was Shot and Killed by Tulsa Law Enforcement as He Tried to Fix His Car; Video Released September 19th Has Prompted a Justice Department Investigation

TULSA, Okla. – Today the Oklahoma chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown for Gun Safety, released a statement in response to the shooting death of Terence Crutcher. Crutcher, a 40-year-old black man and father of four children, was shot and killed by a law enforcement officer as he tried to fix his car. Crutcher was unarmed with his hands up immediately before he was shot and killed.

STATEMENT FROM SABINE BROWN, A VOLUNTEER WITH THE OKLAHOMA CHAPTER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION FOR GUN SENSE IN AMERICA:

“Our hearts are with the family of Terence Crutcher, who last week became one of the 91 Americans killed every day by gun violence. His tragic death reminds us that too many Oklahoma families have an empty chair at their table because of gun violence. It also reminds us that gun violence has a disparate effect on communities of color and black men are 14 times more likely to be murdered with guns than white men. This speaks to how much progress we still must make as a country. We have to do better here in Oklahoma and across the nation.”
