Everytown, Moms Demand Action Had Urged Lockton to Cut Ties with Troubling Insurance Policy in Letter Yesterday

Last Week, Chubb Cut Ties with NRA Carry Guard amid a Regulatory Probe Prompted by an Everytown Investigation and Legal Analysis of Carry Guard

In Wake of Mass Shooting in Parkland, Florida, a Wave of Companies Are Distancing Themselves from the NRA and Its Dangerous Agenda

NEW YORK – Everytown for Gun Safety and Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, part of Everytown, today applauded Lockton Affinity for dropping NRA Carry Guard insurance, which promises to provide insurance coverage for legal and other costs for gun owners who shoot someone and claim self-defense. Lockton ended its business relationship with Carry Guard the same day as Everytown and Moms Demand Action sent a letter to the company demanding that it do so.

The move comes days after the mass shooting in Parkland, Florida, and after insurer Chubb cut ties with Carry Guard amid a regulatory probe prompted in part by an Everytown investigation and legal analysis demonstrating that the NRA may have been violating state law with its marketing and fees in connection with Carry Guard. The latest move is part of a wave of corporate defections from the NRA and its dangerous agenda.

STATEMENT FROM JOHN FEINBLATT, PRESIDENT, EVERYTOWN FOR GUN SAFETY:

“We applaud Lockton for dropping this dangerous product that risks encouraging those who carry guns to shoot first and ask questions later. After the tragedy in Parkland, Florida, corporations are overwhelmingly rejecting the NRA’s ‘guns everywhere’ agenda – and voters will do so at the polls later this year. We are witnessing a sea change in action.”

STATEMENT FROM SHANNON WATTS, FOUNDER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION FOR GUN SENSE IN AMERICA:

“Carry Guard, an insurance program sponsored by a lobbying organization with a deadly agenda, is a dangerous ploy to generate money for gun manufacturers. I’m grateful to the millions of Americans who are holding companies accountable for their relationships with the NRA, and I’m gratified that companies are responding with common sense. It’s time Americans come together and pull every lever available to us to demand an end to the NRA’s grip on our gun laws and culture.”
