NEW YORK — Everytown for Gun Safety and Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, a part of Everytown released the following statement in response to President Trump’s remarks on the Marjory Stoneman Douglas school shooting yesterday.
STATEMENT FROM JOHN FEINBLATT, PRESIDENT OF EVERYTOWN FOR GUN SAFETY:
“Thoughts and prayers alone are not enough. We need to honor the victims of the Parkland mass shooting with action. Sadly, we have a president and Congress that are doing everything in their power to weaken gun laws, not strengthen them.”
STATEMENT FROM SHANNON WATTS, FOUNDER OF MOMS DEMAND ACTION:
“Donald Trump, who received more than $30 million from the NRA, just spoke directly to the children of America, promising to do whatever it takes to keep them safe. Apparently that doesn’t include passing stronger gun laws because he didn’t mention the words ‘gun violence’ once during his speech. We know why we have a crisis of school shootings in our nation, and we know how to curtail them: by preventing dangerous people from having easy access to guns. Trump praised police, educators and students for their courage. Where is the courage among our lawmakers to stand up to the gun lobby so our communities don’t have to stand up to gunmen?”

What truly sets the U.S. apart is the abundance of firearms. The United States far outstrips other nations in the number of guns per capita.
