Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund Endorsed Sen. Feinstein, Lt.Gov. Newsom and Attorney General Becerra

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Today, Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and the California chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America declared victory as Sen. Dianne Feinstein won her re-election bid, Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom won his race for governor and Xavier Becerra won his race for attorney general, further proving that Californians want leaders who will push for common-sense gun safety laws. This election cycle, Everytown and volunteers with Moms Demand Action actively supported these gun sense candidates.

“For Gavin Newsom, Xavier Becerra and Dianne Feinstein no fight is too tough and no policy is too ambitious if it will keep the people of California safe from gun violence,” said John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety.

“The news of Gavin Newsom and Xavier Becerra’s wins is thrilling,” said Wendy Wheatcroft, volunteer leader with the California chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. “Californians in every corner of the state have worked so hard for this victory by making calls and going door-to-door to ensure our neighbors knew how important this election was for public safety. Now, our hard work is paying off with these gun sense champions representing us in Sacramento and in Washington, D.C. We look forward to working with these lawmakers to ensure that California keeps leading the way in making gun violence a thing of the past.”

“These election results have given me more hope than ever,” said Clare Senchyna, a volunteer with the California chapter of Moms Demand Action and a member of the Everytown Survivor Network, whose 26-year-old son, Camilo Senchyna-Beltran, was shot and killed in San Francisco in 2014. “After working tirelessly for months to get gun sense candidates elected, we see that our efforts paid off.”

Newsom, Becerra and Feinstein’s victories show gun violence prevention is a winning issue in California. Both candidates received the Moms Demand Action Gun Sense Candidate distinction and were endorsed by Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund. Moms Demand Action volunteers and gun violence survivors knocked doors and phonebanked for gun sense candidates like Gavin Newsom, Xavier Becerra and Dianne Feinstein across California.

Leading up to the midterm election, Everytown and Moms Demand Action volunteers in California had more than 11,000 conversations at doors and 193,000 conversations during phone calls for gun sense candidates.
