Everytown Announces $60 Million Electoral Program For 2020

January 27, 2020

NEW YORK — Everytown for Gun Safety released the following memo from Senior Political Advisor Charlie Kelly, announcing Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund and Victory Fund’s plans to spend at least $60 million on the 2020 elections — double what it spent during the 2018 elections, and more than any gun safety opponent, including the NRA, reported spending on the 2016 elections.

“This massive 2020 effort is fueled by a combination of financial resources, unprecedented grassroots power and a consensus among more than 90 percent of Americans across party lines that we need action now to reduce gun violence,” said Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action, a part of Everytown for Gun Safety. “The gun safety movement has never been stronger or larger — and we’re going to meet this moment with our most aggressive, well resourced and grassroots-powered electoral program ever.”

“Our political strategy for 2020 is simple, and will take advantage of the broad consensus on this issue — we’re going to ensure voters in the suburbs, where this has become a litmus test issue, know where their candidates and representatives stand on gun safety,” said Charlie Kelly, senior political advisor for Everytown for Gun Safety. “We’re also going to invest heavily in growing the electorate by mobilizing young people and communities of color, in order to secure wins for gun sense champions up and down the ballot.”
