DeVos’ Comments During Confirmation Process Indicate Support for Guns in Classrooms and Eliminating Gun-Free School Zones
WASHINGTON – Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, a part of Everytown for Gun Safety, released the following statement today in response to the U.S. Senate’s confirmation of Betsy DeVos as Secretary of Education. In the 24 hours leading up to the confirmation vote today, Moms Demand Action volunteers drove tens of thousands of calls to Senate offices urging elected leaders to oppose DeVos’ confirmation.

“During the Senate confirmation process, Secretary DeVos did not oppose guns in schools, a dangerous gun lobby priority that endangers our children in the very place that should be a safe haven for learning. Moms paid attention then – and we will continue to stand up for our children’s safety and block any advancement of the NRA’s extremist agenda. Just as we have stopped guns in schools proposals in statehouses across the country, Moms Demand Action will be the bulwark in Washington against the gun lobby’s attempt to put more guns in more places, including our children’s classrooms.
